Students are told that they are a Committee determining who to recommend to the Governor of North Carolina as a nominee for the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Nominees are all Lebanese-North Carolinians. Websites are provided for each nominee. Students decided who will research each nominee. As a Committee, they determine what criteria they will use to decide who should be selected. As they research their nominees, each student develops as poster, Glogster, or letter with that nominee's qualifications. Then students present their choice to the Committee. All students participate in evaluating the choices based on the criteria that they as a Committee determine. Each criterium is assigned a "weight" to be given in totaling up the points for each nominee. When the final nominee is selected, the Committee together writes a letter to the Governor specifying why their choice should be awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
